Cheese Steak Hamburger Helper (One-Pot Skillet Recipe)

Cheese Steak Hamburger Helper is a quick and hearty one-pan meal inspired by the flavors of a classic cheese steak sandwich. Ground beef, onions, and green peppers are cooked together with pasta in a creamy, savory sauce, then finished with melted mozzarella for a comforting and filling dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon steak seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 tablespoons steak sauce
  • 1½ cups beef broth
  • 1½ cups milk
  • 8 oz tomato sauce
  • 2½ cups uncooked spiral pasta
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart, until fully browned.
  2. Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper. Cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
  3. Drain excess grease if needed. Stir in steak seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  4. Pour in the beef broth, milk, tomato sauce, and steak sauce. Stir well.
  5. Add the uncooked pasta and mix until submerged in the liquid.
  6. Bring to a gentle simmer. Cover the skillet and cook on low heat for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender.
  7. Stir in 1 cup of mozzarella cheese until melted and creamy.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top, cover, and cook for 2–3 minutes until fully melted.
  9. Remove from heat and serve hot.

Tips

  • Use freshly shredded cheese for a smoother melt
  • Stir occasionally to prevent pasta from sticking
  • Add a splash of milk if the sauce becomes too thick

Storage

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently with a little milk to loosen the sauce.
